25 June 2022 -- London/Yangon -- The military regime in Burma has executed four democracy activists, a brutal act that demands the condemnation of the world. The four men were Phyo Zeyar Thaw, Kyaw Min Yu, Hla Myo Aung, and Aung Thura Zaw. They were charged with arbitrary and draconian ‘anti-terrorism’ laws that criminalise criticism of the military.

“These four men were killed for seeking a free Burma, and it demands the force of the international community in response. Condemnations alone will not sway the monsters who killed these men, and the world dishonours them by remaining idle. Every effort must be made to remove the junta from power,” said BHRN’s Executive Director, Kyaw Win By executing democracy activists, the military hopes to scare the public into submission. As the economy crumbles and civil war spreads, the junta’s only concern is to subjugate the citizens of Burma.

The Junta said in June that they would resume executions in the country, and human rights groups called on the world to act to stop them. Now they have fulfilled their promise. The world must act before others are killed. If the international community can come together for Ukraine, there is no excuse to allow these horrific events to continue in Burma.
